DECORATIVE displays and Christmas lights adorned the shop-fronts of around half-a-dozen town centre stores taking part in the annual Goodwill window competition on Friday (December 6).

Homeware, gifts and accessories retailer Cornflower and Calico won first prize in the competition after modelling its shop window on The Night Before Christmas, with giant golden baubles and an inviting open fire.

Second place went to Moonflower for providing a window into another world with its Narnia-themed display, which featured a white wardrobe with snowball-like lights and two Christmas wreaths.

Sports shop Bateman’s came third for creating a life-sized Father Christmas, displayed in its window under a collection of festive fairy lights.

Ron Cree, of R & R Books, paid homage to Alice in Wonderland, with his shop window drawing inspiration from the famous Mad Hatter character, while Hothouse’s display was based on a sleigh bells theme.

Treasure Seekers, which provides work experience for youngsters, and the much-loved Made in Stroud shop also entered the competition, which was judged by SNJ advertising sales executive Nathan Green.
