PLANS for a three storey property in Minchinhampton have been objected by the parish council with one councillor branding it a 'Footballers' Wives' style home.

Concerns were raised about the size and design of the proposed six-bedroom house, which would be clearly visible on the approach to the town on the Cirencester Road, at a meeting of Minchinhampton Parish Council on Monday, November 25.

"It looks like it is going to be a footballers' wives house," said cllr Stephen Draper.

"The applicant has got a book of Cotswold houses and gone I like that bit, that bit and that bit.

"It is a complete mix match of designs."

Cllr Charlie Morriss added: "The sheer scale of the house is not in keeping with the AONB."

Concerns were also raised about the location of the property and the fact that it would lie outside the settlement boundary of Minchinhampton.

Cllr Stan Waddington said: "The site is wrong full stop and that is what the objection is about."

The council has submitted a letter of objection to Stroud District Council' s planning team.

In a planning statement, applicants Mr and Mrs Alltimes describe the dwelling as 'more grand than a farmhouse but not as grand as a manor' which has been 'carefully designed in a historic arts and crafts style' typical of a property built during the late 19th century or early 20th century.

In a statement the pair said: "The dwelling has been very carefully designed in a style reflective of historic properties common in the surrounding area and has a semi-formal parkland setting allowing broken views across the site.

"Housing has historically spread along the Cirencester Road from Blue Boys Corner and there is currently no strong built form at its western end to define the edge of the settlement.

"The proposed dwelling provides a strong feature, which terminates the street scene and we consider it will enhance the setting of Minchinhampton particularly when the town is approached from the east."
