SCHOOLBOY Dominic Stephenson has lost some of his most treasured possessions after a fire broke out at his father’s pub.

Dominic, 12, lost most of his possessions including his rugby kit, medals and posters along with his clothes and bedding when a fire broke out in his bedroom at the Globe Inn in Stonehouse.

Now his father, pub landlord Terry, is frantically working to repair the damage before Christmas.

“We were able to salvage a few bits and pieces but the devastation to his room was absolutely incredible,” said Terry.

Firefighters were called to a blaze in the first floor flat at the pub in Stonehouse high street at 6am on Friday, November 8.

Dominic’s room was damaged but the fire did not spread to the rest of the pub.

Fortunately, neither Dominic, who plays rugby for Dursley U13s, nor Terry were there at the time, however, they have both lost out on time together.

“Because of the smoke damage to his room, which is where the fire began, Dominic has not been able to stay with me and has been living full time at his mum’s house,” said Terry, who has been landlord of the Globe since March.

“The thing I am never going to be able to get back after all of this is over is the time with my son.”

The pub was closed for five days after the fire as inspections had to be carried out to ensure gas and electricity mains were safe.

It is now open and Dominic’s bedroom is being redecorated.

During the fire, which is being treated as suspicious, £5,000 was taken from the pub and £21 was taken from Dominic’s room.

Terry is now concerned about paying his bills and buying furniture for Dominic, who attends Archway School, just before Christmas.

“I am at the stage now where I could lose my business,” said Terry.

“It is definitely going to be a struggle to get back on my feet but the support I have received from the Stonehouse community not just for me but for my son has been really great.

“I have had a couple of people offer to get in touch with Gloucester Rugby Club to try and get them to do something nice for Dominic.”
