THE great Sufi mystic and poet Jalal-ud-din Rumi died at sunset on 17th December 1273 in the radiance of enlightenment.

In honour of this date, Hawkwood invites you to a special screening of In the Fire of Grace: Rumi’s Journey of the Soul featuring Iranian-born ecstatic Sufi dancer Banafsheh Sayyad dancing, and in conversation with Andrew Harvey, renowned mystical scholar and world authority on Rumi’s message of divine love and sacred activism.

Sole Satya will introduce the evening with a short talk about Rumi and mystical dance as a devotional path. After the film there will be an opportunity to dance in the Sufi style with simple movements and gentle whirling. “Sole is the perfect person to introduce the evening. Her passion includes dance, therapy, healing, mystical traditions and embodiment,” says Katie Lloyd-Nunn, event organiser.

“Rumi’s poetry is very alive and Sufi mysticism is about embodying the Divine. I am very happy that Swithin Fry (local author, broadcaster and actor) will contribute readings of Rumi’s poetry during my talk,” says Sole.

This special event with film takes place at Hawkwood, Painswick Old Road, Stroud on Tuesday, December 17 at 7pm.

This is a fundraising event for Hawkwood. Any income will go towards essential work on the ancient sycamore by the spring. There will be DVDs and books for sale, as well as some light refreshments.
