GLOUCESTERSHIRE Voices, a social enterprise run by and for people with learning disabilities, has celebrated the opening of its new premises in Stroud.

The self-advocacy organisation, which has around 400 members across the county, opened its new offices in Lansdown on Thursday, December 5.

A special ceremony to mark the occasion was attended by Gloucestershire County Council’s cabinet member for long-term care Kathy Williams, who cut a red ribbon to officially open the building.

There was also a performance from the Dramatic Change Theatre Company, which prepared a short-piece of comedy highlighting the work of Gloucestershire Voices for the invited audience.

The not-for-profit organisation provides a range of support services for clients with learning disabilities and also works to ensure their voices are heard at all levels across the county.

Gloucestershire Voices currently has a staff team of 25, 18 of whom live with a learning disability.

Kieran Bright, the manager of the project, thanked the county council for its support and said: “There is a need for an independent organisation that can challenge and support decisions facing the almost 3,000 adults with learning disabilities in Gloucestershire.”
