PUPILS at Whitminster Primary School are all being taught under one roof now that building work on two new classrooms is complete.

There are four classes at the school in School Lane and until September this year two of them were being taught in temporary buildings, meaning the children were learning in different parts of the school.

Two brand new classrooms, which have been added to the main school building, were opened on Thursday by the new Bishop of Tewkesbury, the Rt Rev Martyn Snow, officially bringing all of the pupils together.

During the opening ceremony, which included a singing performance by the students, the youngest pupil at the school, Katherine Dangerfield, four, was joined by one of the oldest pupils to have attended the school, Sybil Barry, 85, to cut the ribbon.

Headteacher Lisa Hinkley said: “The two new classrooms have been beautifully designed with high ceilings and lots of light and the children love learning in this environment.”

Governors and staff put in a successful bid for county council funding which paid for the £300,000 project, with £30,000 contributed from school funds.

Paul McLain, cabinet member for children and young people and commissioning, said: “The old temporary buildings just weren’t up to scratch and I’m delighted we’ve been able to open these two new classrooms.”
