CYCLING enthusiast Charlotte Robbins, eight, raised £100 for Cotswold Care Hospice in memory of family friend Vicky Wakefield-Heath who died earlier this year.

Vicky, who was well-known for her work within the community, died in May at the age of 26, after a five month battle with bowel cancer which had spread to her liver.

Charlotte, who lives in Park Road, Nailsworth, with her mum Sharon, dad Jamie and sisters Rhian, 15, and Lauren, 18, came up with the idea of a sponsored bike ride when she was thinking of ways to honour Vicky’s memory.

“I love cycling so thought a sponsored bike ride would be the best idea,” said Charlotte, who is hoping to get a new bike for Christmas.

Charlotte started her journey from her home in Nailsworth and travelled along the cycle path to the centre of Stroud before turning around and heading back home.

“By the end of the journey I was tired but I also had a real sense of achievement for what I had done,” she said.

Earlier this year Lauren and Rhian took part in the Race for Life in Gloucester also in memory of Vicky and the three sisters already have plans to sign up for next year’s event.
