AS MAYOR of Stonehouse this is by far my favourite time of year, not least because I get to represent the council on several community Christmas events from school concerts to carol services and our very own Goodwill Evening.

This year’s event was undoubtedly one of the best so far with children from all the local schools participating in some way or another from singing carols on stage to being part of a fabulous lantern procession down the High Street from Elm Road to the Town Green.

Santa was on hand all afternoon in his grotto meeting children and helping them with their dreams and aspirations for the big day.

I spoke last year about the magic of Christmas and how important it is for families and friends to be together.

But it is also a time to think of those who may not be as fortunate, may live alone or who have family many miles away.

Stonehouse is a very vibrant town with all but one unit in its High Street occupied and trading with several new businesses starting in the new year.

I wish them well for the future, however we are not without threats from out of town retailers and major developers on the outskirts of Stonehouse which I believe could have a major impact on the town and its services.

One of the things that makes me proud to represent Stonehouse is the privilege of working with all the community groups and volunteers who help make and shape the town I feel so passionate about.

I would like to thank them all and wish them and everyone in the Stroud district a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year.
