SHOPPERS got into the Christmas spirit when local school choirs performed at the Merrywalks Shopping Centre to raise money for Winston's Wish.

Pupils from Gastrells Community Primary School and Archway School sang a range of festive songs and shoppers were asked for donations for the charity for bereaved children, on Tuesday, December 17, and Wednesday, December 18.

The Gloucestershire-based charity is the country’s leading childhood bereavement charity and the largest provider of services to bereaved families in the UK.

Throughout December any child who has lost a parent or family member was encouraged to place a star on the Christmas tree in the Merrywalks Centre in their memory.

Bill Wrather, owner of the Merrywalks Centre, said: “Christmas is all about thinking of others and we do hope to raise as much money as possible for Winston’s Wish.

"We can’t thank the choirs enough."
