A MAN who grew nine cannabis plants in a garden shed in Stroud has been jailed for a year.

Thomas Tennant, aged 26, of Carlton Gardens, Stroud, admitted being concerned in the production of cannabis on February 22 and also possessing the drug with intent to supply.

Appearing at Gloucester Crown Court on Friday, he also pleaded guilty to handling a stolen HSBC credit card on February 16.

He asked for a further offence of obtaining £155 worth of clothing with the card to be taken into consideration.

At the time of the offences Tennant was in breach of a 20 week suspended jail term for dangerous driving and harassment offences.

Janine Wood, prosecuting, said that Tennant had five previous convictions for nine offences.

She went on to explain how police found 42 packets of cannabis weighing 45 grams worth £535 in his bedroom.

Nine cannabis plants were also found growing in a garden shed. They had an estimated yield of £5,060, the court heard. Text messages showed that Tennant was selling the drug. Joe Maloney, defending, said Tennant's previous offences were old. He highlighted a pre-sentence report which said his client now had a better attitude and had not reoffended since February.
