IN his bed-ridden final years, artist Henri Matisse began using brightly-coloured cut-out paper shapes arranged into abstract patterns.
The colours he used were so strong that he was advised by his doctor to wear dark glasses.
Drawing with Scissors, an exhibition of some of those works, opens in Stroud's Museum in the Park on Saturday.
This touring show from the Hayward Gallery features 35 lithographic prints of the famous cut-outs, produced in the last four years of his life. It includes many of Matisse’s best known images, such as The Snail and the Blue Nudes.
Shows at the Museum in the Park until February 9.
