A NEW chapter at Maidenhill School has begun now that the library has been stocked with nearly 500 new books for pupils to enjoy.

Eleven pupils from the school in King's Road Stonehouse visited Peters Bookselling Services in Birmingham last month to help choose new books for the school's library.

The pupils, who were from Years 7 to 10, researched which books their classmates would like to see in the school library and then chose the titles from a variety of genres including teen fiction, junior fiction and non-fiction.

Using a £5,000 grant awarded to the school by the Foyle Foundation to spend on books the pupils chose 82 non-fiction titles and 322 fiction titles which are now on the shelves of the school library.

The Foyle Foundation, which provides funding for school's wanting to provide a better library facility for pupils, also awarded the school £1,000 to update the library management system.

Headteacher Pam Wilson said: "This grant has enabled us to give an injection of new books into our new library and we are thrilled to see how many students are making use of the facility."

The school library was relocated to the heart of the school in November as part of a £3.8 million redevelopment which has seen the school get a brand new roof, a huge internal and external makeover, new solar glass windows and a brand new student entrance.
