SHOPPERS donated dozens of unwanted PCs to schools in Africa at a collection at Tesco in Stroud on Saturday.

Rotarians were once again collecting IT equipment for Cheltenham charity IT Schools Africa.
Around 30 computers were donated between 11am and noon at the store in Stratford Road.

The items will be refurbished and distributed to schools in Africa.
Rotarian Andy Jarrett said: “We are so pleased. It is a good number considering the weather and the time of year.

“We are very grateful to everyone who donated.”

IT Schools Africa is a charity which aims to transform IT education in Africa. The charity collects surplus computers, refurbishes them and distributes them at a low-cost to schools across Africa.

Since 2004 the charity has sent more than 34,000 computers, equipped more than 1,500 schools and trained more than 700 teachers.

IT Schools Africa welcomes donations throughout the year and is desperate for flat screens. Machines should be under six years old.

Flat-screen monitors, laptops (Pentium IV and above), must be accompanied by power adaptor, keyboards, mice and power leads. B/W laser printers, spare hard-drives, CD drives and floppy drives.
