URGENT work on the A46 near Stroud is causing delays for motorists.

Temporary traffic lights were installed on Monday, January 6, so that emergency repairs could be carried out by Severn Trent Water on a mains pipe.

The traffic lights are due to be removed by the end of today. 

Gloucestershire County Council were contacted by Severn Trent Water on Thursday about urgent work that would need traffic lights in place starting on Monday.

Permission was given for the traffic lights subject to them being manually controlled from 7.30am to 9.30am and 3.30pm to 6.30pm each day.

A Severn Trent Spokesman said: “Emergency repairs are being carried out on a mains pipe underneath a brook near the A46 in Stroud. 

"The work is expected to be complete with the traffic lights removed by the end of today. 

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused people using the A46 in this area.”
