POLICE were searching for a bag of human bones in Stroud this morning after a report from a concerned commuter.

The female driver believed she had seen a bag filled with human remains on the roadside on her way to work at 8.40am today (Thursday, January 9).

She was driving along Painswick Road when she spotted the bag 150 metres from Painswick Valley Cars, a police spokesman said.

Officers conducted an extensive search of the area but nothing was found.

"The caller told police it was spine shaped and didn't think it was animal remains because it was too big," the police spokesman said.

"She said there was no flesh just bones in a bag with a bin liner next to it.

"She genuinely did think something was untoward but there was nothing in it and we are no longer investigating it."
