Former Stroud resident shot in South Africa

FORMER Stroud resident Roger Price has been killed at his home in Johannesburg.

Roger, who was born in Ryeford in 1938, died after being shot during a burglary on Friday, January 3.

A former Stroud Boys' Technical School pupil, Roger, moved to Botswana in 1976 where he worked for the country’s meat commission at Lobatse under British government aid.

After 12 years he moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, where he resumed his earliest career in auctioneering – a trade he learnt while working for Pearce Pope and Sons auctioneers in Stroud after leaving school.

Roger leaves behind two sons, Jason and Matthew, and three grandchildren James, Emma and George.

His funeral service was held at St Michael’s Church in Bryanston, Johannesburg yesterday, Tuesday.

He is also survived by his brother Tom, who still lives in Stroud, and sister Roseanne.
