AN outline planning application for 55 homes in Hardwicke has been approved by Stroud District Council.

Plans for a residential development at Mayos Land off Bristol Road came before the council's development control committee on Tuesday, January 14.

Councillors approved the application but highlighted a number of concerns including the effect of extra traffic on the already busy B4008, the lack of a pedestrian crossing and suggested that the speed limit on the B4008 be reduced from 40mph to 30mph.

Cllr Graham Littleton (Con, Hardwicke) said: "I propose that we grant permission but a lot of points need to be taken on board.

"This is still an outline application and there are many many questions still to be resolved."
Cllr David Drew (Lab, Farmhill and Paganhill) also raised concerns about access to schools.

"One of the problems with the amount of development going on around Hardwicke is access to local schools.

"Schools are full and the implication is that children will have to go to schools in Kingsway.

"If parents don't have a car how do they get their children to Kingsway?"

Councillors asked that SDC's planning head of planning Phil Skill write a letter to Gloucestershire County Council highlighting their concerns.
