A NEW pavement is being built in Bath Road, Eastington to make the road safer to cross for pedestrians.

The area of Bath Road opposite Orchard Leigh Cottage will see a new pavement build out being installed from today, Monday, January 20 to Friday, January 24.

So the improvements to the footpath are carried out quickly and safely a full road closure to through traffic in Bath Road will be in place between the hours of 8am and 4pm during the works.

However, two gatemen will be in place at all times of the closure to help vehicles needing to access buildings or properties in Bath Road and surrounding roads.

A diversion route is in place and the road will be reopened fully outside of the working hours.

The new pavement build out on Bath Road has been jointly funded by Gloucestershire County Council, Eastington Parish Council, Orchard Leigh Camphill Community and Highways Local.

Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood said: “The new build out on this road will make it much easier for pedestrians to cross the road and I’m more than happy to be working with our partners on getting this done.

“I’d like to thank the residents and regular road users in advance for their patience with us whilst we carry out the works.”

Cllr Lesley Williams, who represents Stonehouse at the county council: said, “I’m delighted that this build out is finally being installed.

“It is an example of excellent partnership working together in the interests of the people living nearby making road crossing safer.”
