STAFF and pupils at Callowell Primary School are celebrating after receiving a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted only 18 months after being judged as ‘satisfactory’.
Two inspectors visited the school in Barrowfield Road over a two day period last term and judged it as 'good' in four key areas including pupil achievement, quality of teaching, behaviour and leadership and management.
The report particularly highlighted the rapid improvement of ‘pupils’ achievement in reading, writing and mathematics, in particular, disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs’.
Inspectors also praised the ‘quality of teaching’, the ‘positive ethos’ of the school and the ‘wide range of learning opportunities especially in physical education and drama’.
Praise was also given to the governing body and the headteacher and deputy headteacher who have ‘successfully improved the quality of teaching since the last inspection’.
Headteacher Linda Wall said: "We are so pleased with outcome of the report and in such a short space of time.
“It reflects all of the staff and pupils hard work and commitment, with the continued support from our parents and governing body," she said.
