A FATHER has died while trying to move his broken down vehicle on the A417 at Crickley Hill near Birdlip.

The man, aged 59 and from Cheltenham, was trying to move his car, a black Toyota, which had broken down on the hill.

It happened at 9.30pm on Friday on the Cirencester bound carriageway.

A police spokesman said: "Officers suspect that the man, accompanied by his son, was travelling up the hill in his black Toyota car when it broke down on the hill.

"Whilst attempting to move the vehicle from the carriageway the man was struck by the car and suffered injuries."

Paramedics and police attended the scene and the man was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where he sadly died a short while later.

An investigation has started and the coroner has been informed.
