HISTORY buffs in Oakridge have been digging into the past to discover who lived in the village centuries ago.

Thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the help of the county Archaeology service and they have discovered many objects from the past including the site of the Roman villa and its adjacent fields.

Oakridge History Group has organised an exhibition of its findings in the village hall between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, February 22.

History group member John Loosley said: “We are very pleased with the results of the project and are delighted with the opportunity to show the findings to as many people as possible"

“It will be great fun for people of all ages and we have reports on the surveying, the field walking and excavations together with objects found and photos of all the activities.”
