VISITORS to WWT Slimbridge can be transformed into lovebirds celebrating St Valentine’s Day by following a special romantic trail featuring swan couples.
This half-term, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust centre is offering visitors the chance to try to identify individual Bewick swans – each has its own unique bill pattern – from the comfort of the Peng Observatory, to have a go at being a researcher, and to take part in crafts including making a swan hat.
Our picture shows Zara and Tindall (named after Zara Phillips MBE and her husband Mike Tindall), a pair of Bewick swans who feature on the trail which is aimed at families and romantic couples.
Sue Belej, learning manager at WWT Slimbridge, said: “Swans are incredibly elegant birds and form hearts with each other as part of their courtship, so we felt they were the perfect species to celebrate on Valentine’s Day.”
The trail is included in the normal admission costs or free to members.
