A 41-YEAR-OLD Nailsworth woman accused of three assaults on NHS staff in a psychiatric hospital failed to attend a hearing at Gloucester Crown Court on Friday.

Hannah Stewart, of Tetbury Lane, Nailsworth, denied one offence of assault causing actual bodily harm and two charges of assault by beating at an earlier hearing.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between October 27 and November 8 last year.

She was due for a progress hearing this week but failed at attend.

Both her lawyer and her father said it was because she was ill with a severe asthmatic condition and had been housebound for a week.

Judge Alistair McGrigor said he required medical proof and adjourned the case for a week.

Prosecutor Lisa Hennessy said the Crown was intent on continuing with the case having received a psychiatric report which said Stewart was capable of forming the necessary intent to commit the alleged offences at the time.

“In this case there is no question of this case being abandoned by the prosecution. It will proceed,” she said.

Stewart’s father was asked to convey to her the importance of providing a medical note.
