A STAINED glass window created by a Gloucestershire craftsman and four apprentices was unveiled at Nailsworth Subscription Rooms on Friday, February 7.

Ruskin Mill student Tim Organ and volunteers Davina Loveridge, Sophie Churchyard and Gavin Pond were coached by renowned stained glass artist Johannes Steuck.

They worked on the 7ft tall window for 16 months and it will now welcome visitors to the ground floor of the Bath Road building.

“In working together on this project, the apprentices developed a wealth of new skills and formed part of a committed team with a common goal,” said Johannes.

“To have the satisfaction of seeing the finished work in situ, where it can be seen by all who pass by, will definitely make them proud.”

The Subscription Rooms are managed by Nailsworth Youth Community Enterprise (NYCE) and is home to the Nailsworth Community Workshop.

The solid oak frame supporting the window was made in the workshop by one of the stained-glass apprentices. Cirencester businessman Ian Carling and Crown Aluminium of Stroud helped fund the project.
