TODAY Gloucestershire County Council has issued two new leaflets which offer advice and guidance for residents who have been affected by flooding.

The first leaflet, written jointly with Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, explores how residents might feel in the days, months and sometimes years after an incident. It provides information on how to find help, if needed.

The second leaflet, produced by Public Health England, explains how to clean up your home safely after a flood. It provides important health advice and some basic precautions to keep you and your family safe while cleaning up your flooded home.

The leaflets can be viewed alongside the council’s official Flood Guide at www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/flooding Cllr Dorcas Binns, Cabinet member for public health said, “We want to support our residents as much as possible at this difficult time. Advice, help and treatment can help people of all ages to come to terms with an event, by talking about their feelings and learning to cope better.”

The council is also reminding people to take care on the roads tomorrow morning as rain overnight could cause some localised surface water problems.

The weather is likely to improve quickly tomorrow afternoon, becoming drier and brighter, with a mixture of showers and dry spells set for Friday and Saturday. Sunday sees a return to quite wet and windy conditions, although rainfall amounts will not be large enough to raise concern.

Cotswold District Council and Tewkesbury Borough Council are both offering a free collection service of household items that have been damaged as a result of flooding.

Cotswolds residents should call 01285 623123 to take up this offer, and residents in Tewkesbury should call 01684 295010 for an officer to visit and assist in arranging the collection. Some wheelie bins and recycling containers have been standing in water contaminated by sewage, so residents are advised to disinfect them using hot water containing washing up liquid. Always wear protective clothes, gloves and boots when cleaning and disinfecting.
