STONEHOUSE Town Council has lost an ongoing battle with Gloucestershire Highways to stop the surface of the high street being replaced with tarmac.
Highways crews plan to start work removing the flagstones in the high street and replacing them with Mastertint Tarmac on Sunday, March 16.
Traders have previously expressed concerns about more roadworks and the effect they would have on their businesses.
However, the road will only be subject to temporary parking restrictions and no waiting restriction on Sunday, March 16 and Sunday, March 23.
In May last year the town council stepped in at the eleventh hour to prevent this maintenance work from taking place and a number of meetings between councillors and Gloucestershire Highways were arranged to discuss the repairs to the high street.
Richard Gray, local highways manager, explained that there has been an unforeseen problem with some of the blocks used in the pedestrian area of Stonehouse High Street and an alternative solution needed to be agreed upon.
Town Clerk Gill Jennings said the council was not very happy with the decision.
