ROCK and roll supergroup Status Quo’s ex-drummer John Coghlan took part in an impromptu gig at Malmesbury school when he was invited to talk to music students.

He surprised youngster when he took his place at the drum kit as they played several of the band’s greatest hits.

The visit was organised by Year 11 pupil Aidan Johnson who interviewed him for a school radio show.

The Quo fan had met him at several gigs and decided he would make an ideal candidate for his rock radio programme – especially as he lived not too far away in Oxfordshire. “I emailed his wife who is his manager and she said he would love to.”

Aidan, a keen drummer himself added: “I am a massive fan of Quo and he is one of the best rock drummers ever, in my opinion. He has been a big inspiration to me.”

He and his fellow musicians put on a short gig of Quo songs for their guest and were delighted when he got behind the drums for a jam session afterwards.
