SENIOR citizens boosted their computer skills at an event at Cashes Green Community Centre, organised by Gloucestershire Police as part of national Safer Internet Day.
Over 50 older people were invited to attend the We’ll Meet Again event where IT Training and Design specialist Melissa Briggs gave demonstrations and advice.
Students from Stroud College were also on hand to help, and Crime Reduction Advisor Mark Godsland talked about the dangers of internet scams and fraud.
Melissa said: “I now specialise in training the elderly – my oldest client is 90 – and I was able to talk about using tablet computers and demonstrate how easy it can be to use touch screens and take photos. It went incredibly well: the room was full and people were very interested in learning more.”
Mark added: "This was a fantastic event that highlighted the huge advantages of using the internet safely but also alerted people to the potential risks."
