PUPILS at Croft Primary School in Painswick will be going flippin’ crazy on Shrove Tuesday when they take part in a sponsored pancake day event.

The whole school will be turning out to compete in pancake races tomorrow, Tueday, with every competitor equipped with a pan, pancake and chef’s hat, aiming to flip their pancake as many times as possible.

Ella Skelston, of the Friends of Croft School, is helping organise the races as a fundraising event.

“We are aiming to raise £14,600 for 60 tablet touchscreen computers which will replace the current out-of-date equipment, aid the children’s learning and give them confidence in using new technology,” she said.

“In the past few years the Friends have raised money to fund play equipment, experience days, outdoor education, a projector and a new stage.

“To be able to buy touchscreen tablet PCs for each child to use will take our school to another level as well as providing teachers with an innovative tool to inspire the children and prepare them for the modern world in which we now live.”

To date, the Friends have raised half the money by holding a fireworks night, a wreath-making course, and a Christmas fair – but there is still another £7,300 to raise.

All 140 pupils will be taking part in the event, bringing in their own frying pans from home.

“For Pancake Day, pupils will be cooking pancakes on the school’s newly-acquired halogen hobs then, after school, all the 140 pupils plus staff will take to the field for the races,” said Ella.

“We’re hoping the teachers will take part too and that everyone will be sponsored for the number of flips they can complete.”

The school is hoping the community will join in with the fundraising by coming along to support the event, by donating money or sponsoring the pupils, or by donating prizes.
