Mankley Field campaigners out in force to protest ‘unsustainable’ plans for new homes

MORE than 150 campaigners trying to stop 150 homes being built in Leonard Stanley gathered at the proposed site on Saturday to show their opposition to the development.

Stroud MP Neil Carmichael, both the Labour and Conservative district councillors for the Stanleys, Stephen Lydon and Nigel Studdert-Kennedy and Green Party candidate for the Stanleys Nicola Hillary attended the protest to show their united opposition to the plans.

The fight to stop 150 homes being built on Mankley Field has been renewed after it was revealed last month that new plans by developer Gladman were being recommended for approval by Stroud District Council planning officers.

Parish and district councillors and members of the Mankley Field Action Group are now encouraging as many residents as possible to write a letter of objection to the application and post it on the district council’s planning website and send it to every member of the development control committee.

A Mankley Field Action Group spokesman said: “We are asking the committee to stand by their draft local plan which was published in December and reject applications such as Mankley Field which are unstrategic, unsustainable and undemocratic.”

SDC’s development control committee will make their final decision on the application at a meeting at 6pm on Tuesday, March 11.

See the SNJ website for a full report of the meeting.
