TEENAGER James Coventry stole two BMX bikes to 'see if he still had it in him', a court heard.
Coventry, aged 18, of Juniper Way, in Stonehouse, pleaded guilty to the theft at Stroud Magistrates' Court on Monday, March 10.
Coventry and another teenage boy took the bikes from the garden of a property in Pheasant Mead in the early hours of Saturday, February 8, the court heard.
One bike was recovered but the other, which is valued at around £400, was returned in bits and pieces, the court heard.
When interviewed by police, Coventry said 'the main reason I stole the bikes was to see if I still had it in me', the court heard.
His solicitor David Billingham, said: "He has not been in trouble since 2010.
"He really doesn't have a clue why he got involved in it and had no intention to keep the bikes."
Coventry was given a 12 month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
He must also pay £76 in compensation to the bike owner.
