STAFF and pupils at SGS College are celebrating after receiving the Employability Chartermark for Education.

An assessor representing Recognising Excellence cited a number of good practice areas at the institution including the careers service, advertising local vacancies, UCAS application help, and preparing learners for life after college.

The Employability Chartermark for Education, which was introduced in October 2012, is awarded to schools, colleges and universities in recognition of business engagement activities that produce work ready students.

Patrick McLeod, head of offsite provision at SGS College said: "Enhancing the employability of our students is central to everything we do and this award gives the college worthy recognition.

β€œIt also provides a framework for continual improvement to ensure we continue to adapt and improve our services for our learners and our employers."

Assessor Veronica Parsons said: "This is a great achievement for the college and reflects the strategic importance placed on ensuring the students are given every opportunity to fully achieve their employability potential.”

"It is very encouraging to hear from the students themselves that they have learnt from, enjoyed and benefitted from their work placements and employability elements of the curriculum at SGS.”
