POLICE are appealing for information after a 57-year-old man was knocked to the ground in an attempted mugging in Cheltenham.

He was walking home from a pub in All Saints Road between 8.55pm and 9.05pm on Monday, March 10, and on reaching the junction of Selkirk Close, a cyclist came up behind and hit him on the back of the head.

The offender stopped and tried to remove the victim's watch, but then rode off empty-handed.

A passerby found the victim lying on the ground and called 999.

The man was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

He has been unable to give police officers a description of the attacker, other than he was white.
