ADULT education in Gloucestershire has been awarded a ‘good’ rating by Ofsted.

Inspectors judges Gloucestershire County Council’s adult education service as ‘good’ overall in three key areas - outcomes for learners, teaching, learning and assessment and leadership and management.

The result shows a significant improvement from the previous Ofsted report.

Inspectors praised the work done with visual arts and rated teaching, learning and assessment in this area as ‘outstanding’.

Foundation English, foundation maths and community learning were rated as good and praised for successfully motivating learners.

Echoed throughout the report was the enjoyment learners got from their courses, and how they have managed to develop good personal and social skills as a result and participate enthusiastically in lessons.

Managers and teachers were also commended for their commitment to supporting learners to gain jobs.

Staff also demonstrated that there are no barriers to learning, proving their success in understanding and meeting the needs of learners from different backgrounds.

Cllr Paul McLain, cabinet member responsible for adult education, said: “It is really encouraging to see such significant progress for adult education in Gloucestershire.

“This success is a result of the hard work and commitment demonstrated by everyone involved.

“Whilst we are celebrating our achievements we will continue to work hard to make sure that we are improving year on year to support adult learners throughout the county to succeed.

“If you are considering taking up a new hobby, studying for qualifications or undertaking training then we would encourage you find out more about the adult education in Gloucestershire.”
