A FORMER chef who uses cannabis every day ‘because he works hard’ was fined £205 for being caught in possession of the drug.

George Davis, aged 19, of Bunting Way, Nailsworth, pleaded guilty to possession of a small amount of the Class B drug at Stroud Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The court heard that Davis was approached by police officers on the forecourt of the Shell petrol station in Stroud Road, Nailsworth, at 1.30am on Saturday, February 22.

According to Teresa Perry, prosecuting, Davis knew he was going to be searched and therefore handed the police a cigarette packet with 0.5 grams of cannabis – worth £5 – inside.

Davis told the court he was a regular user of the drug and smoked cannabis every two days because he ‘worked hard’.

He was ordered to pay a £100 fine, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
