A PLANNING application for a Morrisons food store in Stroud has been formally submitted to Stroud District Council.

The application for a medium-sized store at the site in Dudbridge Road - a stone’s throw from Sainsbury’s – includes a cafe and a petrol station.

Morrisons, which already has a store in George Street, Nailsworth, is one of three supermarket developments announced for the Stroud area.

Plans have also been submitted for an ASDA on Daniels Industrial Estate in Bath Road, Lightpill and an unknown supermarket at a brownfield site near the Ryeford junction on the Ebley bypass.

The plans for the store, which have been submitted by the current landowners Avocet Industrial Estates, include the demolition of the current buildings on the site – which is the location of Stroud Metal Company.

The supermarket giant has worked with Stroud Metal Company to aid its relocation to a new £8 million factory at Brunel Way Industrial Estate in Stonehouse, while securing a site for the Morrisons store.
