THOUSANDS of pounds poured in for Sport Relief from events across the district.

Forest Green Rovers footballers Stephen Brogan and Aarran Racine supported the Stroud branch of the Coventry Building Society on Friday by joining in a guess the sweets in a jar fundraiser.

Staff in FGR tops laid on cakes and games and an autographed football was awarded to the winner who guesses the number of sweets.

Meanwhile, Brimscombe Primary School held a Sport Relief Mile.

The entire school took part, with many pupils exceeding the one-mile target. Children also dressed up in sport clothing.

The school’s Sam Newman said: “A lot of the children went much further than the one mile as there were certificates available for outstanding achievement.

“We had a fabulous day and managed to raise £160 for Sport Relief.”

Youngsters from the Fundamental Group at Stroud Athletics Club collectively ran the equivalent of three marathons – 78 miles – in just 45 minutes as a relay at Archway School playing field on Friday.

Twenty-five children aged between nine and 11 were joined by coaches, assistant coaches, mums and dads and there was plenty of cake afterwards to replenish the children’s energy reserves.

On Saturday, children at Tiggers Nursery in Stroud jumped at the chance to raise money.

A sponsored bounce was held plus a tombola, face painting and other activities.

Around 80 children had fun on a bouncy castle and so far just over £375 has been raised.
