CHILDREN at Horsley Primary School will be topping up their education with a pizza day.

School Cookery Club organiser Anna Herbert is running the event.

Anna, who has three children at the school, said: “Classes take it in turns to take part in a weekly Cookery Club but I thought it would be good to do a bigger project, so we’re looking forward to a pizza cookathon on Friday.

“The project’s already started with homework based around designing pizzas, working out the costings, recipes and ingredients - I’m really looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

“The oldest children will be cooking pizzas for the whole school, around 100 pupils.”

The cooking will take place in the village church with pupils using flour donated by Shipton Mill.

Cooking will take place on mobile ovens loaned by Stroud firm, Chadwick Pizza Ovens.

School business manager Sarah Edgall said: “We started cooking when the Let’s Get Cooking initiative, funded by the National Lottery, helped with funding, equipment and training. Now the parents are keeping things going and Anna will be leading the first project when pupils cook for the whole school.”
