PLANS to relocate Stroud Metal Company to a new £8 million factory are another step closer.
The proposal for a 79,000 sq ft factory to be built at Brunel Way in Stonehouse was given the go-ahead by Stroud District Council through delegated powers – moving the company from its current location in Dudbridge Road.
According to managing director Matthew Large the move would not only secure the long term future of 50 existing manufacturing jobs in the Stroud area but has the potential to bring an additional 100 new jobs to the town.
A planning application for a Morrisons foodstore at the Dudbridge Road site has recently been submitted SDC.
In order for the £8 million factory to go ahead in Stonehouse Stroud Metal Company need the money from the sale of their site at Dudbridge from Morrisons.
“Clearly we very much hope this application is approved when it goes before the planning committee in the coming months as it will be the final trigger we so urgently need to proceed with the Stroud Metal factory relocation,” said Mr Large.
