A MOTHER of two is hoping to inspire people to paint with all the colours of the Cotswolds.

Mum-of-two Kate Holloway, who runs furniture painting workshops at her home in Water Lane, Selsley, has joined forces with Colourman Paints in order to develop her own range of shades inspired by her home county.

“I grew up in Stroud and although I spent some time in London this place has always been my home,” said Kate, who came up with the idea of furniture painting workshops after her daughter Rosie went to school.

“I fell in love with the quality of the paints and the fact that there really is very little prep work needed before using them.

“However when it came to naming them I felt passionately about celebrating our beautiful surroundings and what makes where we live so special and different.”

Colours of the Cotswolds features 11 shades including Water Lane Grey, Kate’s signature colour inspired by the brick work which surrounds her home.

Giffords Rouge is a deep red inspired by the travelling circus which descends on Minchinhampton common every year and Painswick Yew is a deep green inspired by the myth of the 99 Yew trees in Painswick churchyard where allegedly the 100th tree will not grow.

However it is not just the names that make this range of paints unique.

Colourman paints are made from an 18th century buttermilk recipe which has a porcelain clay base rather than the usual chalk, which allows them to not only dry very quickly but also means that a limited amount of prep work is required beforehand.

All the paints are available to buy directly from Kate – however the workshops, which are run roughly every six weeks, offer hands-on advice from furniture restorer Clive Burling.

The next course will be held on Thursday, May 8.

Kate also offers day workshops for lampshade making and planting design.
