STROUD Fringe festival will host a new electronic music stage following a Facebook campaign from music fans.

Festival organisers have struck a deal with local producers, artists to establish the new stage at Stroud’s largest indoor venue the Subscription Rooms.

Stroud-based producer, Jamie Fletcher worked with others in the community to launch the campaign to get more electronic music played at the festival.

The electronic music stage will be hosted by the Subscription Rooms on the Saturday of this year’s festival, which takes place from Friday, August 29 to Sunday, August 31.

Mr Fletcher said: “The reason I wanted to get an electronic production stage at the Fringe was because of all the talented producers in Stroud that don't get a chance to showcase their music.

“Electronic music is a very wide field of genres and it also plays a huge part in a lot of modern contemporary music.

"It will be great to showcase some of the various acts and what they have to offer. It's also a great way of captivating young people’s attention and help them become creative and it doesn't have to be expensive.”

Joe Dymond, from the Subscription Rooms, who will also perform on the stage, said: “The Subscription Rooms is delighted to have become more involved in the Fringe Festival over the last two years and will continue to play a big part in 2014.

“Following the success of our DJ nights, we look forward this year to welcoming Jamie Fletcher and other local music artists and DJs onto the all new Fringe Electronic Stage.

“With some big names from the world of electronic music being lined up to play, this gives the amazing local talent that Stroud has to offer a great opportunity to showcase their music with some of the best on this new addition to the fringe.

“There will be music throughout the day in and around the Sub Rooms, with the Electronic Stage kicking off at 4pm. Mr Twitchett’s Bar and Coffee House will be open from 10am for everything from bacon rolls to cocktails.”

Fringe chair Jeremy Collingwood said: “We are delighted that another dedicated group of Stroud music-lovers are giving their time and passion to help make the Fringe bigger and more diverse for 2014.

“The electronic stage will add another dimension to the festival and allow a popular genre to be better represented at the event.

“We are also grateful to the Subscription Rooms for agreeing to host this exciting new project.”

Friday and Saturday main stage headliners Largo Embargo and The Outcast Band have already been confirmed, and the rest of the line up will be published in May.

A full programme of events across Stroud’s bars, pubs and venues will be on sale across the town in August, see the SNJ closer to the time for more details.
