CROWDS gathered in Stroud’s streets to watch the annual Good Friday Walk of Witness as the sun shone.

A guitar-led rendition of How Great is Our God began the ceremony at the top of High Street followed by a prayer from Reverend Simon Topping, of Stroud Methodist Church – highlighting the serious message behind Easter.

Organised by Churches Together in Stroud, the processional hauling of the nine-foot wooden cross made its way down High Street carried by Michael Kret and Paul Newbould.

The Easter story was announced at different points around the town by various churchgoers as children acted out Jesus’ final journey to crucifixion.

Along the final stretch up George Street the cross was carried where proceedings were ended outside the Subscription Rooms with a final prayer before the hymn The Price is Paid was sung.
