FORMER team-mates of Wycliffe Rugby star Rob Camm, who was left paralysed after an accident, are driving to Mongolia to raise money to help their friend make the most of his life.

George Mossman and Hugo Cooke, both 21, and Jos Chillingworth, 20, originally thought about taking part in the Mongol Rally for a bit of fun and an adventure.

The Rally is a 10,000 miles adventure which sees teams drive from the UK to Mongolia in cars which are at least 10 years old and which have a 1.2 litre engine or less.

Teams leave from Battersea Park in London on Sunday, July 20 – they will meet in Prague two days later and from that point all teams go their seperate ways.

George, Hugo and Jos, who are known as the Shire Boys, have chosen to travel from Amsterdam to Tehran – a route which will pass through 21 countries including Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

Their route also includes driving along one of the most dangerous roads in the world – the Pamir highway, which travels along the Afghan border.

“We just thought it would be really fun to travel through countries that we wouldn’t usually visit and countries we may never get a to visit again,” said George, who studies Geography at Manchester Metropolitan University.

“There have been some visa complications – in one of the ‘stan’ countries we have to check in with a police officer every day – but that just adds to the adventure.”

The trio are hoping to raise £10,000 for their former Wycliffe College team-mate.
