A MUM in Nailsworth has received the ultimate Mother’s Day present, being nominated as Stroud’s Best Mum by her nine-year-old daughter.

And the icing on the cake for Sarah Urquhart, from Beechwood Close, was to win the title and first prize.

The competition, supported by the Stroud News and Journal, was organised by the Merrywalks Centre and O2 Stroud. Entrants had to send a photo and explain why their mum was the best.

Sarah’s daughter Evie wrote: “My mum is amazing, she is kind and loving, I love her so much! We go on lots of days out and any time there is a chance to dress up my mummy loves to put on the olden day clothes.

“It’s just Mummy and me and it’s special because girls rule! She makes me dinner but I make her a cup of tea and toast as she taught me to do this.

“She helps me a lot and comes into school and takes me to Brownies and Orchestra. That’s why I love her!”

Sarah and Evie both came into town to pick up their prizes which included a Sony Xperia Z Tablet from 02 Stroud, a £25 gift voucher from Cherry Hill, £20 gift voucher from Hothouse, a family cinema pass from Vue Stroud and a handbag from Master Cobbler.

Lee Markham, Manager of 02 Stroud, said: “We are delighted that Sarah has won the competition as she’s such a worthy winner. Evie’s entry was heartfelt and it’s obvious how much her mum means to her. We hope they both enjoy the prizes!”
