A JOBLESS drug-addicted burglar has been told by a judge to put a stop to his anti-social lifestyle.

Scott Devine, 34, appeared at Gloucester Crown Court on Monday for an attempted raid on a city chemists when he got a dressing down from Judge Jamie Tabor QC.

The judge told Devine: “You have been coming before this court more frequently than a train comes to Gloucester station.

“You burgle, you take drugs, you drink too much, you don’t work and your relationships appear to be very short-lived, which is hardly surprising.”

The judge allowed Devine, of Northolt Way, Kingsway, Quedgeley, to walk free with a supervision order, but warned him he will be locked up if he breaches it.

Devine appeared with Philip Croker, 21, of no fixed address.

They both admitted attempted burglary of Lloyds Pharmacy, Old Cheltenham Road, Gloucester, on November 17, 2013.

The court heard that both men were trying to get drugs from the pharmacy.

Prosecutor Julian Kesner said it was Devine’s 10th burglary offence, although Croker had only one previous burglary on his record.

Rosie Walsh, for Croker, said he had already served nearly 10 months in custody for breaching bail.

Devine was sentenced to an 18-month supervision order coupled with a 30-day activity programme and three-month drug rehab programme.

Croker was sentenced to 12 months’ supervision with a six-month alcohol treatment programme and 10 days of education and training.
