WOOD from an ancient Sycamore in the grounds of Hawkwood College is returning to its home in the form of a special sounding bowl.
Sounding bowls are hand-turned instruments used by healers, therapists and music therapists. The wood was originally part of a limb on the Sycamore tree, dating from around 1830, which was brought down after the storms earlier this year. But rather than waste the wood, the limb was collected by craftsman Tobias Kaye and taken to his Devon workshop to be made into instruments.
The first of the finished bowls will be featuring at the college open day on Monday, May 5, from 10am to 5pm.
The day offers free taster workshops, tours of the grounds, stalls, home-made food, children’s activities, music, singing, and Maypole dancing. Entry is free, car parking costs £3 per vehicle.
