STROUD MP Neil Carmichael has taken the first step towards getting changes made to solve the problem surrounding the lack of parking for residents in Nailsworth town centre.
Mr Carmichael has written a letter to Stroud District Council asking it to address the need for more parking for people who live in the town centre.
Currently cars are being parked on the road because there are not enough parking facilities, and visitors to the town are also struggling to find spaces.
A small number of Nailsworth residents living in flats and houses around the town centre and among the shops have received fines after not being able to find appropriate parking spaces.
Mr Carmichael said: “It is not good enough.
“In the town there is quite a problem with parking.
“Residents are vulnerable because of the lack of parking and from time to time have received parking tickets.”
Mr Carmichael believes that residents within the immediate vicinity of the town centre should qualify for parking permits to avoid future fines.
