WHATEVER the weather, the Randwick Wap guarantees a good time for visitors of all ages.

And while this year’s staging of the traditional festival enjoyed both sun and showers, a good time was still had by all who joined in the fun.

The event began in glorious sunshine with Wap Mayor Jane Cant and Wap Queen Francesca Bilton being ‘cried in’ by Town Crier Stan Giles, before being carried to the Mayor’s Pool for the ritual dowsing with spring water.

The Mayor’s Song was sung, cheeses were rolled and the procession moved on to open the activities at the Village Fields.

Highlight of the day, despite the wind and rain which set in, proved to be the Fun Dog Show, in its first year, which attracted 76 entries and went down a storm.

Simon Vincent, chair of the Wap Committee, said: “This was our first attempt at a Dog Show and it went down so well it’s likely to become a regular feature.

"Events ranged from Cutest Puppy to Chocolate Drop Racing, and everyone – and the dogs – seemed thoroughly to enjoy it.”
