WORLD WAR 1 will be remembered in a special centenary commemoration on June 21 at Avening Memorial Hall.

Avening Angels Choir will perform popular war-time songs, which secretary Mandy Slater hopes will: “Bring the village together.”

“I’m really looking forward to it” said Mrs Slater, 42, “We’ve never hosted an event like this before, but we’re keen to remember the 42 Avening soldiers who died.”

It is hoped 100 people will join the service in the hall, which was originally built in commemoration of the war. Doors open at 6.30pm, with tickets on sale now costing £5 in advance or £6 on the door, or £3/£4 for concessions.

Under-12s have free entry. Refreshments will be provided by the Women’s Institute.
