WHILE teams were heaving an eight tonne lorry as part of the Stroud truck pull, the Cashers Green Premier charity wheelbarrow race offered a fun alternative family challenge.

Just under £500 was raised for Cancer Research UK as friends and family pushed each other around a challenging course on bank holiday Monday.

The three races took place around Cashes Green playing fields, and the over 16s race featured a loop around the sports courts before finishing back down at the shop.

Arron Melfah played a part in winning all three of the races. He won the adults and children competition with Summer Rose, before being pushed to victory by Ricky Hawkins in both over 16 category races.

Event planner Rachel Burns said: “The event went really well and the turn-out was brilliant, especially considering all that was going on over the weekend.”

“We were glad the weather held up for us” she added.
The family fun also included a raffle, BBQ and live music from the Party Knights.
